Han So Hee’s Mother Arrested for Operating Illegal Gambling Sites
Han So Hee’s mother, Shin, has been arrested in connection with operating 12 illegal gambling websites. On September 3, the Wonju City Police Department announced the arrest of 54-year-old Shin, who is under investigation for running illegal gambling operations online, profiting from luring players to deposit money from 2021 until the end of August this year. Authorities are currently investigating the amount of profit Shin has made from these activities. Previously, Shin has been involved in multiple fraud cases.
Han So Hee’s management commented on the situation, stating, “Han So Hee is devastated by the news. However, this is a matter concerning her mother and is unrelated to the actress.”
Han So Hee has faced various issues due to her mother’s actions. In 2020, Shin used Han So Hee’s bank account to defraud 85 million won (approximately $1.6 million). Many individuals reported that Shin had solicited investments from them, only to abscond with their money. Han So Hee repaid part of the sum and declared that she was not responsible for her mother’s other actions. The actress previously shared, “My parents divorced when I was five, and I was raised by my grandmother. Even when I moved to Ulsan for high school, I continued to live with my grandmother. I didn’t visit my mother frequently, so I didn’t learn about her debts until I was 20. Even before becoming an actress, I tried to repay her debts as much as I could.”
Despite this, in 2022, Han So Hee’s mother was involved in similar fraudulent activities. Her management company issued a statement: “We are working to prevent Shin from exploiting Han So Hee’s name to borrow money and commit fraud.” They revealed that Shin had opened a bank account under the actress’s name while Han So Hee was still a minor and had used it for fraudulent purposes for years.
Han So Hee, 30, gained fame for her role as a woman who steals someone else’s husband in the 18+ drama “The World of the Married” (2020). She later starred in “Nevertheless” and “My Name.” The actress is often referred to as “the little Song Hye Kyo” due to her resemblance to the veteran star. In addition to her acting career, Han So Hee is a sought-after model for various high-profile fashion and beauty brands.
