(Review) ‘Fast X’: When the Power of Family Reaches the Universe
Fast X, the 10th installment in the famous Fast and Furious series, is creating a fever of controversy among action movie lovers and movie enthusiasts. After two decades of development, the brand has reached saturation point with part 10, making many people feel that it may have exceeded the limit of pure entertainment.
Fast X Puzzle Pieces: Family and Old Rivals
Fast X continues to follow Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in his relentless fight to protect his family. This time, the new enemy appears in Dante (Jason Momoa) – the son of Reyes, the boss that Dominic’s group took down in part 5. Dante is not only a bigger threat, but also possesses a strange personality and scary schemes, making Dominic’s fight more tense and complicated than ever.
New Enemy Appearance: Jason Momoa As Dante
Jason Momoa gives an impressive performance as Dante, with a combination of a sick person and a character somewhat similar to the Joker. However, the weakness of the character is the lack of clear information about his psychological origin, which makes the character not as convincing as expected.
The Absence of Paul Walker and the Character’s Lack of Prominence
Paul Walker’s absence has left a big gap in the series, and this clearly affects the rhythm of Fast X. The current characters, although still maintaining their form, lack significant newness and development. Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris’ comedic performances of Roman and Tej fall flat, while Michelle Rodriguez only makes brief dramatic appearances. Vin Diesel, despite his efforts to portray a father figure, is still stuck in the role of an invincible superhero.
Compared to Previous Films: A Step Up, But Still Silly
Compared to The Fate of the Furious and F9: The Fast Saga, Fast X is a bit of a step up thanks to Jason Momoa’s stellar performance and a reduction in cliched dialogue. However, the film still retains the series’ insane and unacceptable style, as the characters almost become superheroes with unrealistic action scenes.
John Cena’s Jacob: A Bright Spot
One of the bright spots of Fast X is John Cena’s Jacob. After the success of Peacemaker, Cena has proven his acting ability to be more diverse and engaging. Although there are many moments that remind viewers of Dominic’s younger brother, Jacob still plays an important role in keeping the story going.
Conclusion: Fast X – Entertainment or Disaster?
But in return the action and special effects are eye-catching.
Fast X continues to maintain the explosive entertainment identity of the series, but at the same time, it also reflects the fatigue of the brand. If you are looking for relaxing moments at the cinema without caring too much about the quality of the content, this is still a good choice. However, if you are a “hard” fan of Fast and Furious, you will probably feel that this brand should have stopped at part 7 to end it in a more beautiful way.
