Channing Tatum’s Gambit might not be done just yet. Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram on Tuesday to share an intriguing deleted scene from Marvel’s hit film, Deadpool & Wolverine. The clip, which features Tatum reprising his role as the scene-stealing Gambit, teases his potential return in future Marvel projects.
In the deleted scene, set after a high-stakes battle involving Deadpool, Wolverine, and other heroes against Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin), Gambit is seen amid the aftermath. As he turns, an orange glow reflects on his face, signaling the appearance of a portal—a hint that he might be on the verge of escaping from the Void.
Reynolds captioned the Instagram post with “whispers Marvel Sparkle Circle,” a playful nod to Doctor Strange’s portals from the film. He also mentioned that a version of this scene is subtly included in the background on a monitor at the Time Variance Authority headquarters in the movie.
Gambit’s Surprising Return and Future Possibilities
The inclusion of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine is a notable development, especially since Tatum’s standalone Gambit film was shelved years ago. The film’s success has reignited Tatum’s hopes for more appearances as the character. On The Tonight Show, Tatum humorously vowed to go to extreme lengths to land a solo Gambit film, even joking about committing heinous acts to make it happen.
Tatum expressed deep gratitude towards Reynolds for advocating his inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine. Reflecting on the opportunity, Tatum shared on X that he felt as though he had lost the role forever until Reynolds brought him into the Marvel fold.
Other Deleted Scenes and Cameos
In addition to the Gambit scene, Reynolds also revealed another cut sequence featuring Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. McElhenney’s cameo as a TVA soldier was ultimately removed, with Reynolds explaining that the sequence didn’t fit the film’s final cut, despite McElhenney’s standout performance.
McElhenney humorously remarked on social media about the inconvenience of his cameo being cut, acknowledging Reynolds’ commitment to ensuring his brief appearance was appreciated by fans.
As fans eagerly await the possibility of more Gambit and other character returns, these deleted scenes offer a tantalizing glimpse into what might have been and what could still be on the horizon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
