Actress from “The Return of the Condor Heroes” Donates Entire Fortune to Charity
Veteran Hong Kong actress Yu Mo Lin has donated all her assets to charity as her health deteriorates.
From the point of view TVB on August 27, Yu Mo Lin has been in declining health over the past few months. Concerned that she might lose mobility or mental clarity in the future, she, along with her lawyer, took advantage of the time they had to complete the necessary procedures. She officially transferred the ownership of her home to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Hong Kong’s oldest charitable organization. Upon her passing, this organization will manage her assets to assist those in need.
Yu Mo Lin purchased the apartment in 1985 for HKD 290,000. Today, the property is valued at approximately HKD 6 million. In addition to her home, she has a savings account that will be donated to an organization dedicated to supporting victims of work-related accidents.
The actress mentioned that since the beginning of the year, she has felt her health declining. In July, she was hospitalized for a week. Although doctors recommended that she stay for further observation, she chose to return home to rest. Currently, Yu Mo Lin requires daily medication, with monthly medical expenses exceeding HKD 10,000.
Yu Mo Lin stated that she has fulfilled her wishes, done everything she needed to do, and said everything she wanted to say, leaving no regrets. She has always lived frugally, often opting to take the bus instead of taxis, saving every penny for her own needs and to help others. In China, there is a mountain village primary school named after her, built with funds she donated. Despite only having a primary school education, she finds joy in knowing that many children now have access to better education.
Yu Mo Lin has no close relatives and lives with her maid, relying on friends for support. In her 30s and 40s, she yearned for marriage but was deceived by men who took her money. Since then, she has avoided thoughts of marriage and romantic relationships.
Yu Mo Lin began her acting career in the 1970s, often portraying unattractive women. Her image became so familiar on screen that people would commonly use the phrase “uglier than Yu Mo Lin” to describe someone with an unappealing appearance. The actress has said she never took offense at being labeled as “the ugly woman.” She is known for her roles in “The Return of the Condor Heroes” , “The Legend of the Condor Heroes” , “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer” , and “Tricky Brains” .
