Jet Li Takes His Daughters on a Pilgrimage
Chinese martial arts star Jet Li and his daughters, Jane and Jada, recently visited the Buddhist holy site of Lhasa, Tibet.
On August 6, Jet Li shared photos on his personal social media page of himself and his daughters at the Potala Palace, stating that the trip was for spiritual cultivation. The Potala Palace, situated 3,750 meters above sea level, is the highest palace in the world and has been the residence of successive Dalai Lamas. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
According to St Headline, Jane and Jada have been exposed to Buddhism from a young age due to the influence of their father and mother, actress Nina Li Chi. Jada, 21, who has struggled with depression for many years, asked Jet Li to guide her in studying Buddhist teachings. Last year, she revealed on social media that although her condition occasionally recurs, it has improved and the episodes are less severe. Jet Li’s elder daughter, Jane, is a graduate of Harvard University.
Since completing the film “Mulan” in 2018, Jet Li has stopped acting and rarely appears at entertainment events. According to QQ, he spends his time traveling the world, often visiting Buddhist regions for spiritual practice. The actor enjoys meditating on mountains, staying away from phones and social media. Jet Li says that unlike his younger years, he now feels relaxed, light-hearted, and at peace.
Last year, Jet Li released a book titled “Jet Li Seeking Jet Li,” in which he reflects on his life’s gains and losses and his 25-year spiritual journey. In his youth, the actor was competitive and envious, feeling unhappy when others were more successful or made more money. He turned to Buddhism and, guided by spiritual teachers, learned to cultivate his mind and character, eventually taking refuge in the religion.
Jet Li has been battling hyperthyroidism for over a decade and continues to take medication daily. Although the illness significantly affects his daily life and work, Jet Li accepts it as part of his journey. Despite not being able to fully cure the disease, he still considers himself fortunate.
