In the video, Garner introduces a yellow pumpkin flower and explains its unique characteristics. “This flower is both male and female,” she reveals, pointing out the crucial part of the flower known as “the pistol.” This component plays a vital role in the pollination process, which is essential for pumpkin growth.
“So, who’s responsible for this important task?” Garner asks, with a grin. “Bees! A big thank you to the bees for their hard work!” She emphasizes the significance of pollination in transforming a small flower into a flourishing pumpkin.
Once pollination occurs, Garner humorously describes the next stage in the pumpkin’s journey. “This is when you get the email that says, ‘Congratulations, Mama Pumpkin. Your baby is the size of a large grape,’” she jokes, adding a personal touch to the scientific process.
