Tragic Love Story of Zhu Bajie in Black Myth: Wukong Sparks Social Media Frenzy
Recently, the heart-wrenching story of Zhu Bajie in “Black Myth: Wukong” has stirred significant emotion among gamers, who feel a deep sense of sorrow for the fate of the once-venerated Heavenly Marshal.
The global gaming community has been abuzz with discussions about various aspects of the blockbuster game “Black Myth: Wukong.” From gameplay mechanics and quests to equipment and the overarching storyline involving the Monkey King, players have been engaged in lively debates. However, it’s not just the main character who has captured attention; Zhu Bajie, the beloved disciple of Sun Wukong, has also become a hot topic.
In “Black Myth: Wukong,” the narrative surrounding Zhu Bajie has been reimagined with a poignant twist that has left many fans heartbroken. According to a brief cinematic in the game, Zhu Bajie’s storyline unfolds as follows:
Zhu Bajie, deeply enamored with the Moon Goddess, encounters a maid who turns out to be Chang’e (a title for all maids of the Moon Goddess). During a secret meeting between the Jade Emperor and the Moon Goddess, Zhu Bajie inadvertently witnesses their rendezvous and is subsequently exiled to the mortal realm. The maid, touched by mortal emotions, is also cast down to earth and transforms into a spider demon.
When Zhu Bajie, now exiled, sees Gao Shu Lan at Gao Lao’s residence, he mistakes her for Chang’e and pursues her. Gao Shu Lan, horrified by Zhu Bajie’s true form, flees in fear. As Zhu Bajie continues his journey westward, he arrives at the Spider Cave, where the reincarnated Spider Demon instantly recognizes her long-lost love. The two fall in love, and Zhu Bajie stands by her side through her trials. The Spider Demon gives birth to Zhu Bajie’s daughter and waits for him until her death. Before passing away, she tells Zhu Bajie, “You are still as foolish as ever,” a reference to his previous mistakes and his reluctant acceptance of them due to fear of divine retribution.
Even someone as powerful as Sun Wukong met his end at the hands of Heaven. The formidable Demon King Niu Mo Wang faced the destruction of his family and the separation from his loved ones simply because of a cursed fate. How could a minor demon like Zhu Bajie hope to defy Heaven? Lacking the skills of his senior brother and the strength of Niu Mo Wang, Zhu Bajie is at a disadvantage.
If he doesn’t look back, he cannot love her; if he does, it would cause her harm. Thus, Zhu Bajie chooses not to acknowledge her. Determined to aid the Chosen One (the protagonist of the game), Zhu Bajie decides that even if he fails, the only price will be his own life. He refuses to drag his loved ones into this turmoil any longer. The greatest act of love he can offer her is to let her go.
