Li Ruotong (Carman Lee) Stars as a Bride in New Film
Hong Kong actress Li Ruotong, famously known for her role as “Little Dragon Girl,” has garnered attention for portraying a bride alongside a co-star 16 years her junior in her latest film.
On August 22, the 58-year-old beauty shared videos and photos on her social media, showing her alongside actor Xia Gang in the film Evening Rose. Li Ruotong plays Chen Lin, a talented woman who leaves her career to become a housewife after marriage and having children. However, after her husband loses his job and falls into debt, the couple faces financial difficulties and their relationship begins to deteriorate. Chen Lin eventually returns to work to support her family and help her husband overcome his struggles and insecurities.
The images of Li Ruotong and Xia Gang sparked significant discussion among fans, quickly becoming a trending topic on social media platforms like Weibo and Douyin. Evening Rose is a short-form drama consisting of 16 episodes and wrapped up filming on August 16. It is set to premiere on Douyin. Besides starring in the drama, Li Ruotong also took on the role of producer. In an interview with Ifeng, the actress expressed her admiration for the character Chen Lin and the story of Evening Rose, appreciating its portrayal of female resilience, intelligence, and compassion. From the standpoint of Li, the film sends a positive message about life and avoids clichés like infidelity and “the other woman.”
In recent years, Li Ruotong has been active in various fields, including film, fashion, and livestream sales. She initially worked as a flight attendant before being discovered by an entertainment company in 1990, leading to her first commercial role. Li Ruotong rose to fame with roles in The Return of the Condor Heroes, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, The Heroine of the Yangs, and Wudang. However, in 2005, she took a break from acting at the request of her then-boyfriend, businessman Kwok Ying Chuen, turning down all acting offers.
