The Paraguayan Olympic Committee has announced that Luana Alonso has been expelled from the athletes’ village for her behavior that affected the country’s sports delegation at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This decision not only reflects the strictness in maintaining discipline but also emphasizes the importance of team spirit in international competition.
AS reported that the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP) accused Alonso of being undisciplined, creating “an inappropriate atmosphere and competition environment, affecting the ability of other athletes to compete”.
On July 29, after failing in the qualifying round of the women’s 100m butterfly event, Alonso suddenly announced her retirement at the age of 20. However, she remained in the Olympic athletes’ village with the Paraguayan sports delegation.
On August 3, the female swimmer, once considered “one of the sexiest athletes” at the Paris Olympics, was expelled from the athletes’ village by the COP.
Clarin said Alonso’s popularity due to his sexy appearance brought unnecessary attention to the Paraguayan team. The 20-year-old’s subsequent lack of discipline made things worse.
In an emailed notice to the 20-year-old athlete, Larissa Schaerer, head of Paraguay’s delegation at the Paris Olympics, wrote: “You are requested to leave the athletes’ village immediately. Your presence is creating an inappropriate environment for the Paraguayan team.” The message was not only stern but also emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere within the team.
The COP accused Luana of violating several Paraguayan team rules, including leaving the athletes’ village to spend the night without permission.
Her posting of photos of her training and fun moments in Paris on social media caused controversy, with many people saying it was inappropriate. This female swimmer has received a lot of attention from the online community, making her every move more sensitive than ever.
