North Korean leader Kim Jong Un bolsters his image as a caring and compassionate leader with a visit to children displaced by floods, who are currently sheltered in Pyongyang.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently made headlines by personally visiting children who were evacuated from flood-stricken regions and are now temporarily housed in Pyongyang. According to South Korean media, the visit is seen as an effort to reinforce his image as a leader who deeply cares for his people.
On August 17, North Korea’s Central News Agency (KCNA) released photos of Kim Jong Un during his visit to the April 25 Village in Pyongyang. The village serves as a temporary refuge for evacuees from the flood-affected areas, and the images of Kim personally inspecting and caring for the children have garnered significant attention.
During his two-day visit to the April 25 Village on August 15 and 16, Kim Jong Un closely inspected an elementary school classroom within a mobile school set up for the children. He examined the facilities, educational materials, and supplies provided to the students.
In a gesture of goodwill, Kim personally distributed uniforms, school supplies, backpacks, and shoes to the children. He also encouraged them to excel in their studies while also focusing on physical exercise to enhance their overall well-being.
Photos released by Yonhap News, a South Korean news agency, show Kim Jong Un happily interacting with the children, sharing meals, and embracing them during his visit on August 15. These images have captured widespread public attention.
Beyond his visit to the school, Kim also directed Pyongyang authorities to organize additional recreational activities for the evacuees, ensuring they have opportunities for enjoyment and relaxation.
Several entertainment facilities in Pyongyang, including the Munsu Water Park, Neugna Water Park, Cheongryuwon Amusement Park, and the Changgwangwon Health Complex, have already launched special programs tailored for flood evacuees, allowing them to visit and participate in leisure activities.
This comes in the wake of a devastating flood that swept through North Pyongan, Jagang, and Yanggang provinces, affecting over 13,000 people. The displaced residents were relocated to the April 25 Village for shelter.
At the height of the disaster, Kim Jong Un reportedly “personally directed” a military rescue operation, which included the deployment of 10 helicopters and naval rescue boats to the flood-stricken areas.
