Diddy has been placed under house arrest at his luxurious Upper East Side apartment.
Diddy’s lawyers have requested that the court allow the hip-hop mogul to be released on bail, proposing that he live under house arrest in a luxurious apartment in Upper East Side, New York, under 24/7 supervision. This marks the third time Diddy has sought bail while awaiting trial on charges related to sex trafficking and extortion.
Strict Conditions Proposed for Diddy
In their request, Diddy’s lawyers proposed a series of strict conditions, including two bodyguards with him at all times, no access to phones or the internet, and a third bodyguard on a lower floor. Marc Agnifilo, Diddy’s lawyer, argued that these conditions were “very strict” and even harsher than his current detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
However, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the idea of allowing Diddy to be under house arrest at his $48.5 million mansion on Star Island, Florida, stating that it would not be an appropriate solution.
Court Examines Diddy’s Illegal Actions
During the hearing, prosecutor Christy Slavik criticized Diddy for using illegal methods to communicate with people while incarcerated. One example given was a birthday post of Diddy’s children on Instagram, which prosecutors argued was part of Diddy’s effort to influence the jury.
Prosecutor Slavik mentioned that Diddy sent a message saying, “I want to reach this jury. I just need one,” indicating that Diddy was attempting to influence the judicial process. This led the prosecution to argue that Diddy was not trustworthy and would not comply with bail conditions.
Abuse and New Evidence
One of the shocking pieces of evidence presented in court was a video recording of Diddy physically abusing his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel in March 2016. Prosecutor Slavik described the attack as part of a “wild party,” with evidence of a sex worker being present in the hotel room when Diddy attacked his ex. The government presented this video as a key piece of evidence, highlighting that Diddy is an abuser and a potential danger to the community.
Is bail the right solution?
Given the severity of the charges, the court will decide whether Diddy should be granted bail next week. The details surrounding Diddy’s illegal actions and abusive behavior are forcing both the public and the court to carefully consider the decision before making a final ruling.
