Mark Zuckerberg shows off photos celebrating Facebook’s 20th anniversary

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, took to Instagram to commemorate the 20th anniversary of one of the world’s most popular social networks. Sharing a mix of photos and a nostalgic video, Zuckerberg reflected on the incredible journey of building Facebook from scratch to its monumental status today.

Twenty Years and Still Here

In his Instagram post, Zuckerberg shared a caption that read: “Twenty years ago, I launched Facebook.”

The post featured a before-and-after photo comparison of Zuckerberg working at his desk in the early days of Facebook and now, showcasing the evolution of his workspace and technology over the years.

Now a father of three, Zuckerberg also included a 20-year montage video highlighting Facebook’s journey. The video opened with the line, “I have a feeling things are going to move very quickly,” set to the iconic track “Dream On” by Aerosmith.

A Journey of Incredible People and Innovation

In the video, Zuckerberg shared: “Twenty years ago, I started a project. Along the way, countless amazing people came together to build extraordinary things. We’re still going strong, and the best is yet to come.”

The clip also featured a snapshot of Zuckerberg with Eduardo Saverin, Facebook’s early co-founder. Their once-close partnership famously dissolved when Zuckerberg reportedly diluted Saverin’s stake in the company, leading to a high-profile legal battle. This dramatic fallout was later portrayed in the Oscar-winning film The Social Network (2010).

Familiar Faces in Facebook’s History

The video paid homage to many key figures in Facebook’s evolution, including: Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg’s wife, who has been a steadfast supporter throughout his career. Sheryl Sandberg, the former COO of Meta, who played a pivotal role in scaling Facebook before stepping down in 2022.

From Facebook to Meta

Since its launch in 2004, Facebook has undergone massive transformations, including its rebranding to Meta Platforms in 2021. Meta now owns an impressive suite of social media applications, including:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Messenger
  • Threads
  • WhatsApp

Zuckerberg’s celebration marks not just a milestone for Facebook but a testament to two decades of innovation, challenges, and global impact. As Meta continues to evolve, Zuckerberg remains optimistic, declaring that “the best is yet to come.”
