After the 1-0 victory of U23 France over U23 Argentina to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, a scuffle broke out between players of the two teams.
This scuffle seemed inevitable after the grudges that had accumulated on both sides. Before the Olympics, Argentina sent a message full of “smell” of racism to France. Argentina midfielder Enzo sang a song aimed at the black players wearing the French national team shirt, mocking the African origin of these players.
When the match entered the 5th minute of injury time, black player Enzo Millot caused the situation to explode when he left the field and went straight to the opponent’s coaching bench to tease and celebrate happily in front of the group of Argentine players. Millot’s provocation immediately sparked a fierce scuffle.
Immediately, dozens of people, including members of the coaching staff, rushed into the melee with the French players, forcing the security forces to struggle to deal with the escalating situation. While the number of players involved in the fight grew, the security forces were not enough to control it.
Fortunately, as the situation became tense, other players quickly stepped in to calm the atmosphere. However, the referee could not ignore Millot’s provocative behavior and showed him a red card, forcing him to miss the semi-final.
When the situation calmed down, coach Thierry Henry apologized to the Argentine side. He said: “I turned around to shake hands with the opposing coach. And I saw everything. I was just informed that Enzo Millot got a red card, we will see if he deserved it.
