According to witnesses, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device on the beach, shortly after other gunmen attacked Lido Beach, a popular seaside hotel in the capital Mogadishu.
Somali police said on the evening of August 2, a group of terrorists attacked Lido Beach – a popular seaside hotel in the country’s capital Mogadishu.

Witnesses near the scene said they “heard two loud explosions, followed by rapid gunfire in the area near the hotel.”
Some claimed that “there was a gunfight between al-Shabab (a dangerous terrorist organization in Somalia) gunmen and the hotel’s security forces.”

The Lido Beach Hotel is located near several government security buildings and is frequented by senior Somali officials.
According to witnesses, security forces are conducting a rescue operation at the hotel and have killed several gunmen involved in the attack.
