Eva Longoria, the Mexican-American actress renowned for her iconic role in the TV series Desperate Housewives, has decided to leave the U.S. after former President Donald Trump’s reelection. She shared this emotional decision in an exclusive interview with Marie Claire on November 13, expressing her concerns about the country’s political climate.
“I can leave, but not everyone in America is as fortunate,” said the 47-year-old actress. After years of living and working in Hollywood, California, Longoria, her husband Jose Baston, and their six-year-old son Santiago have relocated to Spain and Mexico.
Born and raised in Texas, Longoria revealed that the increasingly “frightening” environment in the U.S. prompted her family to seriously consider leaving. She noted that the atmosphere in the country began to feel “different” during Trump’s first term. The tipping point came during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, which, according to her, pushed everything “beyond the limit.”
The actress stated that this year’s election results further reinforced her belief that the future in the U.S. would continue to grow unstable. She expressed her disappointment over Kamala Harris’s loss in the election, despite spending the summer openly supporting the Vice President through campaigns encouraging women and the Latin American community to vote for the Democratic candidate.
“This chapter of my life seems to have closed,” Longoria admitted. While she has left the U.S., she remains committed to fighting for the values she believes in.
Eva Jacqueline Longoria, born on March 15, 1975, is a celebrated actress and Golden Globe nominee. She gained fame through her portrayal of Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives and also starred in Over Her Dead Body. Beyond acting, Longoria is a renowned model who was ranked 14th on the list of “Sexiest Women” in 2008.
Longoria’s decision is not just a personal story but also a reflection of the significant societal shifts in the U.S., raising thought-provoking questions about political polarization and the future of families in the nation.
