Every holiday season, Mariah Carey is the undisputed queen of the airwaves. However, this year, things have taken a surprising turn.
Jason Kelce and Stevie Nicks Top the Charts
In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, released on November 12, Jason Kelce, 37, shared his excitement about a new milestone. His duet with legendary singer Stevie Nicks, Maybe This Christmas, has officially climbed to the top of the iTunes 100 Holiday chart.
This achievement has knocked Mariah Carey’s iconic All I Want for Christmas Is You down to second place.
During the podcast, co-hosted with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason joked about the accomplishment:
“You know, I’ve spent my entire life striving to become the Queen of Christmas, and we’ve finally done it… it’s pretty special,” he said.
Jason acknowledged the impressive feat of unseating Carey’s classic, but added a dose of realism: “We’ll see if it holds throughout the rest of the Christmas season. We caught the wave early in November, so we’re riding that trend.”
He further expressed his excitement: “I’m taking this win wherever I can get it. It’s pretty awesome.”
Jason also reflected on collaborating with Stevie Nicks, calling the experience “incredible.”
“Honestly, I’m still in shock that it actually happened. There was no chance in my mind that any song I’m part of would hit No. 1 in any category,” he admitted.
The duet is featured on Jason’s annual charity album, A Philly Special Christmas Party, released earlier this month.
A Surreal Collaboration
In a previous podcast episode from October, Jason revealed his disbelief over working with Stevie Nicks:
“It’s crazy to actually collaborate with her. She’s probably the most legendary female vocalist… Singing with her feels like a dream.”
Although Maybe This Christmas has momentarily called the top spot, Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You remains an enduring holiday staple in the U.S.
First released in November 1994, the track has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a cumulative 13 weeks as of 2019 and dominated the Billboard Holiday 100 for an unparalleled 60 weeks from 2015 to 2023, according to Billboard.
Despite the temporary dethronement, Mariah’s festive anthem continues to define the Christmas season for millions worldwide.
