In her upcoming memoir, Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, Keke Palmer accuses a co-star, referred to as “Brenda”, of making a racist comment towards her while filming the Ryan Murphy series Scream Queens.
Palmer’s Resilience in the Face of Racism
Palmer recalls the incident happening after Brenda became angry over a “conflict with a colleague” on set. When Palmer attempted to defuse the tension by suggesting that they should “have fun and respect each other,” Brenda allegedly responded, “Keke, literally, don’t do that. Who do you think you are? Martin F–king Luther King?”
During an interview, published on Sunday, the 31-year-old Nope star declined to name the co-star involved, explaining that she wanted to “diminish the power in [Brenda’s] words.” Palmer emphasized that despite the gravity of the comment, she did not let it affect her.
Palmer said, “The words she said were heavy, but I didn’t let it affect me because I know who I am.” She continued, “I’m not a victim. That’s not my narrative, honey. I don’t care about what she said. If I allowed her words to paralyze me, then she would have won.”
Fans Guess Lea Michele as the Co-Star
Palmer starred alongside Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, and Billie Lourd in the series, which ran for two seasons from 2015 to 2016.
After Palmer’s interview was published, fans took to social media to speculate about which actress might have made the alleged remark.
“It’s Lea Michele,” one user claimed, sharing a screenshot showing that Palmer follows Roberts, Breslin, and Lourd on Instagram — but not Michele. Another user agreed, saying, “I don’t even need to check her Instagram, I knew it was Lea as soon as I read it.”
Meanwhile, a fourth user pointed out that Michele and Palmer did not have many scenes together in the show’s second season. “That explains why Keke and her didn’t share much screen time in season 2,” they wrote.
Palmer’s memoir, Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, is set to be released soon, offering more insights into her personal and professional struggles.
