In recent news, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson addressed controversial rumors surrounding his behavior on set, including allegations of urinating in bottles for assistants to dispose of and frequent lateness during film shoots. According to Variety, these allegations have been circulating since April, initially reported by The Wrap, which claimed that production issues on the movie Red One were due to The Rock’s alleged unprofessionalism. The film, set for a North American release on November 15, has already hit theaters in some regions
In response to the accusations, The Rock acknowledged some truth but clarified the situation. He admitted to urinating in bottles instead of using public restrooms, explaining that this was to save time on set. However, he firmly denied the exaggerated claims about his tardiness:
“Yes, this did happen, but not to that extent. That’s a crazy number,” he stated, adding that while he occasionally arrived late, it was never to the extent of eight hours as reported.
Johnson dismissed the allegations as “ridiculous and absurd”, stating, “I’ve said this a thousand times. I’m here. Come and ask me, and I’ll tell you the truth.” This statement reflects his frustration with the rumors and his readiness to clarify any misunderstandings directly.
Director Jake Kasdan and co-star Chris Evans quickly came to The Rock’s defense, highlighting his professionalism and work ethic on set. Kasdan emphasized:
“He’s never taken a day off. He has a lot on his plate, so sometimes he might run a little late. But that’s how Hollywood works; everyone deals with this. Honestly, I’ve made three big films with The Rock, and I’ve never seen him act unkindly toward anyone on set.”
Chris Evans, who starred alongside The Rock in Red One, explained that Johnson’s morning workout routine could sometimes cause slight delays, but this was well understood by the production team:
“This is part of the schedule that everyone, from producers to crew members, is aware of. So, I wouldn’t even call it being late. He may arrive a bit later some mornings, but this is planned in advance.”
Evans also praised The Rock for his generosity and kindness, revealing that Johnson once donated $100,000 to support crew members on set.
Earlier this year, The Wrap’s report suggested that The Rock’s occasional tardiness led to a significant budget increase for Red One, with production costs reaching $250 million. Some critics argued that Johnson’s status as an A-list star may have contributed to a perceived disregard for punctuality. Nevertheless, his dedicated work ethic and reputation in the industry have led many to defend him, particularly close colleagues who have experienced his character firsthand.
Despite the controversies, Red One has now been released in select markets and will premiere across North America on November 15. Early reviews are mixed, with some critics questioning the storyline and acting performances, yet The Rock’s fanbase remains supportive as the film gains momentum.
