On November 11, the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) lit up Manchester, UK, with an electrifying ceremony that saw female artists sweeping the top honors, led by none other than Taylor Swift.
The iconic pop star took home four major awards: “Best Artist,” “Best Live Performance,” “Best US Act,” and “Best Video” for Fortnight, her collaboration with Post Malone. Although Taylor couldn’t attend in person due to her record-breaking Eras tour across North America, she expressed her gratitude in a heartfelt video message. “I can’t believe the magic you all have made possible for me this year,” she shared emotionally.
Taylor wasn’t the only standout. Sabrina Carpenter won “Best Song” for her hit Espresso, triumphing over major contenders like Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande. Rising South African R&B sensation Tyla also impressed, earning three awards: “Best R&B,” “Best African Act,” and “Best Afrobeats.”
K-pop stars made a strong impact this year. BLACKPINK’s Lisa won “Best Collaboration” for New Woman with Rosalía and also claimed the “Biggest Fans” award. BTS member Jimin was honored as “Best K-Pop,” continuing the group’s streak of success at the EMAs.
The event was hosted by singer Rita Ora, who paid an emotional tribute to the late Liam Payne, former One Direction member, who passed away last month. Fighting back tears, Ora said, “Liam was a dear friend, and his loss is a profound one for us all.”
The night also featured a special tribute to hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes, who received the “Global Icon” award. He set the stage on fire with hits like Break ya Neck and Touch it, declaring, “Being recognized on this international stage is proof that hip-hop knows no boundaries.”
Additionally, British pop pioneers Pet Shop Boys received the inaugural “Pop Pioneers” award for their significant musical contributions. They closed the show with an energetic performance alongside the Manchester Camerata orchestra.
This year’s MTV EMA celebrated the immense influence of female artists, showcasing the unstoppable rise and diversity of global music, from Taylor Swift’s storied career to emerging talents like Tyla and Sabrina Carpenter.
