According to law enforcement sources, these charges come after extensive analysis of over 800 hours of hotel surveillance footage, as well as multiple raids conducted at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel and surrounding properties.
The Suspects and Their Alleged Roles
The first suspect, described as a “friend,” was reportedly present in Liam’s hotel room but left prior to his death. This individual faces charges of abandonment. A second suspect, a hotel housekeeper, allegedly supplied Liam with drugs hidden in a soapbox—a crucial piece of evidence identified as a Dove soap container.
The third individual is the alleged drug supplier accused of delivering narcotics to Liam Payne twice on October 14, just two days before his fatal fall from the hotel’s third-floor balcony. Both the housekeeper and the supplier face charges of drug trafficking.
Initial reports and autopsy findings revealed a mix of illicit substances in Liam’s system, including cocaine, crack, ketamine, MDMA, and “cristal” (a form of methamphetamine). Photos from Liam’s hotel room depicted a chaotic scene, with evidence of drug use among his personal belongings.
Personal and Legal Context
Liam Payne, who had been in Buenos Aires to support fellow One Direction member Niall Horan, extended his stay following his girlfriend Kate Cassidy’s return to the U.S. His behavior reportedly became erratic before his tragic fall. His father, Geoff Payne, has remained in Buenos Aires to assist investigators.
Despite earlier progress in his battle with addiction—publicly stating in July 2023 that he was sober after rehab—Liam’s struggles resurfaced. His body was repatriated to the UK on Thursday, with his family preparing for his funeral.
