Sweet Marriage of ‘Wei Xiaobao’ Star Jordan Chan
Hong Kong actor Jordan Chan, known for his role in “The Deer and the Cauldron” , says his wife’s smile helps him be less temperamental.
In early August, Jordan Chan and his wife, Cherrie Ying, shared photos from their vacation on social media, revealing that they revisited the places where they had dated in the early days of their relationship, including the island of Santorini, Greece. Cherrie called this trip their “youthful summer journey.” On Qixi Festival (July 7th on the lunar calendar), which many regard as China’s Valentine’s Day, Cherrie posted a photo with her husband, writing, “Happiness is seeing you smile.” She mentioned that they cherish anniversaries and always create romantic surprises for each other.
Jordan Chan captured photos of his wife during their travels. The couple has been married for 14 years, with their eldest son now 11 years old and their youngest son four.
On Mango TV, Jordan once shared that in his youth, he was introverted, stubborn, and prone to fighting and swearing. Since meeting Cherrie in the early 2000s, he gradually softened, learning to compromise and becoming more gentle. The actor said, “Cherrie has a sweet smile, and I was captivated by it.” He also learned from his wife to be more mild-mannered, amiable, and friendly. Although the couple occasionally argues, they never mention divorce. They both believe in staying committed and cherish each other, seeing marriage as no trivial matter, especially after having children.
Cherrie Ying revealed that her husband isn’t handy around the house, from changing light bulbs to assembling baby cribs, so she handles those tasks herself. Jordan Chan also frequently forgets the passwords to his social media and email accounts. Cherrie often jokes that she has to take care of him like she does their two sons. “But why do I stay with him? Because I love him,” Cherrie said on Mango TV.
Cherrie grew up in a wealthy family and moved to New York with her parents at a young age. At 17, she traveled to Hong Kong for a vacation and was scouted by an entertainment company to start acting. She appeared in films like “The Deer and the Cauldron 2007,” “Twin of Brothers,” “Orphan of Zhao,” and “Narco Wars 2.”
In contrast, Jordan Chan comes from a poor background. He dropped out of school at 13 to work at construction sites and as a waiter. In 1985, he joined a dance class at TVB and later became a backup dancer for various singers. Jordan began his acting career in the 1990s and rose to fame with his leading role as Wei Xiaobao in TVB’s 1998 version of “The Deer and the Cauldron.” He also gained acclaim for his performances in TV dramas and films such as “Detective Investigation Files,” “Fist of Fury,” “The Final Verdict,” “Fist of Legend,” “He’s a Woman, She’s a Man,” and the “Young and Dangerous” series.
