Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s Nearly 30-Year Friendship
Actor Brad Pitt describes George Clooney as wise and insightful, always turning to him in times of difficulty.
As Brad Pitt and George Clooney reunite for the project Wolfs, set to release on September 20, the two lead actors grace the cover of GQ’s September issue, sharing stories about their friendship and careers. In an interview on August 13, Pitt and Clooney revealed that they have supported each other through many challenges, considering occasional check-ins as an essential part of their relationship.
The two first met in the 1990s and have since navigated various twists, pressures, and struggles in the industry together. Pitt reflected, “I don’t know how to describe this friendship. I just feel it’s incredible that we can still do something together.”
In the same interview, Pitt used the imagery of an antelope trying to escape a pride of lions and cheetahs as a metaphor for the loneliness and fear that fame can bring. He expressed gratitude for having George Clooney as a pillar of support. “You can only get through everything when your feet are on the ground. That’s why you need to find genuine comfort. I know Clooney will always have my back, and I’m there for him too,” Pitt said.
In response to Pitt’s gratitude, George Clooney praised Pitt’s hard work. Clooney acknowledged that while Pitt may have needed a bit of luck in his career, the Fight Club star has been able to create his own luck through years of dedication to every role.
When asked about their first impressions of each other, Brad Pitt shared that he admired George Clooney from the moment he saw the The American star criticize paparazzi the day after Princess Diana’s death. In that moment, Pitt realized that Clooney possessed qualities that he and others lacked, giving him the stature of a true leader.
The duo has appeared together in six films, beginning with Ocean’s Eleven (2001). They continued their collaboration in the sequels Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007). Wolfs marks their most recent collaboration, focusing on two crime scene cleanup specialists who help clients cover up crimes. Beyond starring in the film, George Clooney and Brad Pitt also serve as producers.
