Camila Cabello does not want to be forever linked to her ex through a duet.
Released in 2019, the song “Señorita” became a global phenomenon. This hit duet not only marked the beginning of the romantic relationship between Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes but also became one of her standout tracks. However, now that the couple has broken up, “Señorita” seems to have become a concern for Camila.
In a recent interview with Complex magazine, Camila Cabello candidly shared her feelings about the hit that has over 1.7 billion views on YouTube. When asked if she ever feels bored listening to her No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits like “Señorita” or “Havana,” the former Fifth Harmony member did not hesitate to answer “yes,” especially regarding “Señorita.”
She expressed, “There’s always a concern that when a song becomes too famous, it will overshadow you. Of course, I love that they’ve been successful, but it makes people label you in a certain way. I once had a public relationship, and as a woman, I don’t want the couple’s image to become my new identity.”
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes went public with their relationship in July 2019, right after the release of “Señorita.” Their romance lasted over two years before officially ending in November 2021. Despite the breakup, the couple has maintained a good friendship.
However, in April 2023, fans spotted them getting cozy at the Coachella music festival, sparking hopes of a reunion. Unfortunately, the excitement was short-lived as Camila later confirmed on a show that they had briefly gotten back together but quickly decided to part ways again.
Regarding their brief reunion, Camila Cabello once shared: “It was a fun moment. But then you feel like things don’t fit, they aren’t right. Fortunately, we were at a stage in our lives where we both realized we didn’t really need to try so hard to make it work. Everything is fine; we just move on.”
