Marco Verde Makes the Leap to Professional Boxing
In a bold move reflecting his commitment to the sport, Marco Verde, the 22-year-old Olympic silver medalist from Mexico, has announced his transition to professional boxing. Verde’s decision comes in light of uncertainties surrounding the future of Olympic boxing, prompting him to pursue a career in the professional arena. He has secured the services of Eddy Reynoso, renowned for managing and training boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, as his manager. Although Reynoso will not serve as Verde’s trainer, the collaboration underscores Verde’s ambition and potential in the boxing world.
At the recent 2024 Paris Olympics, Verde showcased his skill and determination, ultimately settling for silver after a hard-fought battle in the 71kg gold medal match against Uzbekistan’s Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev. Prior to his Olympic appearance, he had already marked his name in history by winning a gold medal at the Pan-American Games, further establishing himself as a rising star in the sport. Hailing from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Verde is now considered the most promising Olympic men’s boxer from Mexico since Oscar Valdez, with Misael Rodriguez being the only other recent notable figure, having secured a bronze in 2016.
Verde’s Vision for the Future
Expressing his enthusiasm for the next chapter in his career, Verde shared on social media, “I am very pleased to share that Eddy Reynoso will be my manager and representative as I begin my journey in professional boxing. I fully trust his experience and vision.” He confirmed that Radames Hernandez will be his coach, and he plans to continue his training in Mazatlan. Verde has also indicated that he will take a wait-and-see approach regarding the future of Olympic boxing, expressing his willingness to revisit the option in 2025.
Eddy Reynoso echoed Verde’s sentiments, stating, “It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with a successful and disciplined athlete. In Marco Verde, Mexico has a future world champion.” As Verde embarks on this exciting new journey, the boxing community is eager to see how his skills and determination will translate into the professional ring. With a solid foundation and the backing of experienced figures in the sport, Marco Verde is poised to make a significant impact in professional boxing.
