Antilia, the luxurious and opulent residence of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, is currently the world’s most expensive private residence, valued at $2 billion. Located on a 37,000-square-meter plot in South Mumbai—one of the world’s priciest areas—Antilia ranks as the second most expensive property globally, just behind Buckingham Palace.
Designed by architects from Chicago-based Perkins and Will, and built by Australian company Leighton Holdings between 2006 and 2010, Antilia features a unique architecture inspired by lotus and sun motifs. Named after a mythical island in the Indian Ocean, the mansion’s floors have notably high ceilings, with each floor equivalent to two in a standard building.
This residence is exclusively for Mukesh, his wife Nita, sons Anant and Akash, and daughter Isha. The family lives on the uppermost floors, where they can enjoy ample sunlight and quick access to their helipad.
Floor Details
Floors 1-6: Private Car Park
The mansion spans 27 floors without a basement, so floors 1 to 6 serve as the family’s private parking area. This design also mitigates flooding during monsoon seasons. The garage holds Ambani’s collection of 168 luxury cars.
Floor 7: Car Maintenance Area
Floor 7 is a dedicated car care and maintenance zone staffed by engineers and mechanics hired to ensure that any car issues are swiftly addressed.
Floors 8-10: Sky Garden
From floors 8 to 10, a massive garden designed as a gift for Nita Ambani resembles the famed Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The garden is maintained by professional staff for a daily flourish of blooming plants.
Floors 11-12: Five-Star Restaurant
On floors 11 and 12, the residence features five-star restaurants where family members can enjoy gourmet meals, often prepared by Michelin-star chefs.
Floors 13-16: Family Hospital
To safeguard the family’s health, floors 13 to 16 are designated as a private hospital, outfitted with advanced technology and high-end equipment.
Floors 17-18: VIP Guest Area
The VIP area on floors 17 and 18 serves as a space for Mukesh Ambani to welcome distinguished guests. The rooms are luxuriously designed, each with a unique style to rival five-star hotels.
Floors 19-22: Family Bedrooms
Floors 19 to 22 house private bedrooms for the Ambani family. These rooms offer panoramic city views and a peaceful escape from the city’s bustle.
Floors 23-26: Staff Quarters
With over 600 staff members serving the Ambani family, these four floors are dedicated to staff accommodations and workspace, ensuring they can provide immediate service as needed.
Floor 27: Recreation and Entertainment
The top floor includes an 80-seat cinema, a year-round pool, and a snow room, providing a cool retreat from Mumbai’s summer heat. Additionally, the rooftop features three helipads for convenient travel.
Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, heads a vast conglomerate spanning oil, telecommunications, and retail. Forbes listed him in April as Asia’s richest person and among the world’s top 10 wealthiest, with an estimated net worth of $112 billion.
