Jeff Bezos’ nearly $500 million superyacht, named Koru, measures over 127 meters in length, ranking as the 32nd largest yacht on the planet, with annual maintenance costs not under $50 million.
According to the New York Post, 60-year-old billionaire Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, 54, spent the summer cruising the Mediterranean aboard the Koru, valued at $485 million. The celebrity couple is said to have visited Greece, Italy, and Spain, stopping on the secluded island of Menorca in the Balearic Islands (Spain).
Numerous A-list celebrities appeared on the superyacht, including Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, and his model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti. The group dined at the nearby Arachena restaurant before returning to the Koru to continue their journey.
The Koru, which means “new beginning” in the language of the Maori people of New Zealand, is over 127 meters long, ranking as the 32nd largest yacht on the planet, with an estimated annual operating cost of around $25 million. First spotted during construction in 2021 at a shipyard in the Netherlands, it was delivered in April 2023. Koru can host up to 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 to manage its amenities.
According to Luxuo, Koru features three outdoor decks, two swimming pools, a cinema, several meeting rooms, and lounges. The yacht’s bow is adorned with a statue of the Norse goddess Freyja. Previously, there was speculation that the statue was modeled after Bezos’ girlfriend; however, Sanchez clarified in a Vogue (U.S.) interview that it represents a mythological figure that Bezos admires.
Bezos commissioned a wooden statue for the yacht’s bow to ensure the “castle at sea” is protected by a goddess. The wooden statue depicts Freyja, a goddess from Norse mythology representing love, fertility, wealth, and war.
In addition, every detail of the superyacht is designed to offer luxury, including the advanced technology in its masts. Bezos opted for a high-tech system that stores large sails at the base of the masts, above the deck. The three enormous masts, nearly 70 meters tall, allow the yacht to reach speeds of up to 20 knots, making it Bezos’ largest yacht capable of moving solely by sail power.
The initial designer of Koru and the identity of its captain remain undisclosed. “With the yacht’s graceful curves and classic lines, we don’t know who designed them,” reports Boat International.
As the superyacht does not have a helipad, Bezos operates a support vessel named Abeona—named after a Roman goddess—at a cost of $75 million. Abeona, which is over 74 meters in length, includes a helipad, two additional bedrooms accommodating four guests, a maximum crew of 45, and support staff. The vessel houses at least four jet skis, two speedboats, and a rubber dinghy.
Abeona’s heavy-duty crane can lift a small submarine, although Bezos is not reported to own one at this time.
