Sofía Vergara Transforms for ‘Griselda’ Role: Why She Hid Her Curvy Figure
Sofía Vergara, known for her iconic curves and bombshell appeal, took on a very different look for her latest role in Netflix’s crime drama “Griselda”. In an interview with Variety, Vergara revealed the lengths she went to in order to accurately portray Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, a character far removed from the glamorous image she typically projects.
Vergara explained that while Griselda Blanco wasn’t a conventional beauty, she did possess a certain sex appeal that needed to be conveyed on screen. However, Vergara’s naturally curvy figure presented a challenge in achieving the character’s look. “I didn’t want the bouncing that is natural for Latin women to show,” Vergara shared. To downplay her curves, she had to wrap herself tightly to minimize her famous assets. “I had to wear a really bad bra,” she added, emphasizing the physical adjustments required for the role.
Beyond her figure, Vergara also had to alter her appearance in other ways. She covered her arms to make them appear less slender, as she felt that her naturally thin arms didn’t align with the imposing presence needed for the role. “You don’t look threatening when you have this stupid little arm,” she noted, highlighting the detailed efforts taken to transform into Blanco.
This isn’t the first time Vergara has been candid about her body image. She’s previously opened up about the cosmetic procedures she’s undergone, including Botox around her neck and eyes, though she has steered clear of fillers. At 51, Vergara embraces plastic surgery as part of her beauty regimen, acknowledging that while she’s open to future procedures, her busy career often leaves little time for the recovery they require.
While her transformation for “Griselda” may have involved downplaying her signature look, Vergara remains committed to embracing her beauty both on and off the screen. As fans anticipate her portrayal of Blanco, it’s clear that Vergara’s dedication to her craft goes far beyond the surface, allowing her to embody characters that challenge the perceptions of her well-known persona.
