Earlier this week, True Religion announced an exciting holiday partnership with Megan Thee Stallion. The collaboration revealed Megan as the face of True Religion’s 2024 Holiday Campaign, showcasing the brand’s iconic festive collection and sending her fans, known as “The Hotties,” into a frenzy. While many celebrated this move, some fans voiced disappointment, feeling rapper Sexyy Red would have been a more authentic choice for the campaign given her regular association with the brand.
In a statement, Megan Thee Stallion shared her excitement, calling the collaboration a “full-circle moment.” “Working with True Religion is such a full-circle moment. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, so it’s exciting to star in this campaign and bring in the Hot Girl Holidays in a special way,” she said. Megan’s fans celebrated her new role, but others took to social media to voice concerns about the decision.
Many pointed out that Sexyy Red has frequently worn True Religion pieces, which have become an integral part of her style. Fans were quick to comment online, with one Twitter user saying, “True Religion should’ve given an endorsement deal to Sexyy Red…it would’ve made more sense.” Another fan noted, “I ain’t never seen Megan in True Religion but I definitely seen Sexyy Red wearing them religiously.”
In response to the social media buzz, True Religion’s CEO Michael Buckley explained their reasoning, stating that Megan was the “perfect face” for their campaign. “We’re very excited to partner with Megan Thee Stallion. She’s the perfect choice for our women’s division, which is seeing double-digit growth compared to last year,” Buckley stated. Kristen D’Arcy, True Religion’s Chief Marketing Officer, added, “Megan Thee Stallion is hotter than hot right now but also a ‘true’ fan. This campaign will resonate with our loyal customers, while attracting new fans to the brand.”
The 2024 Holiday Campaign, titled “Where Holiday Wishes Come True,” launched this week and also features rapper Hunxho. Fans can now shop the collection both in-store and online, just in time for the holiday season. Although some continue to advocate for Sexyy Red to be featured in future campaigns, True Religion remains confident that Megan Thee Stallion will make a strong impact and boost the brand’s visibility.
