Sammy Hagar’s custom 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari has achieved a remarkable sales record, selling for an impressive $4.67 million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Fall Collector Car Auction. This unique LaFerrari, crafted specifically for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, was auctioned last Saturday, making it the most expensive car sold at the event. Additionally, Hagar’s LaFerrari set a new sales record for its model year, surpassing the previous high of $3,910,000 for another 2015 LaFerrari, sold in August 2022 at Broad Arrow Group Auctions.
Insights from Craig Jackson
Craig Jackson, CEO of Barrett-Jackson, expressed his enthusiasm about the sale, stating he felt “honored” to auction Hagar’s exceptional LaFerrari. He remarked, “We had no doubt we’d find it a good home. Sammy and the new owner connected after the sale, and it felt right. We found the LaFerrari a good home.”
Hagar’s Arrival at the Auction
Sammy Hagar, the legendary former frontman of Van Halen, arrived at the Scottsdale auction in his custom Challenger 300 jet, which mirrors the color scheme of his bespoke LaFerrari. A decade ago, Hagar requested Ferrari to tailor the cabin of his LaFerrari to match his private jet’s interior, resulting in a distinctive vehicle featuring an exclusive off-white exterior and a coordinated interior.
Hagar’s Thoughts Post-Auction
Reflecting on the auction experience, Hagar shared, “Honestly, being part of the bidding war was exhausting.” He added, “I kept wondering, do I really want to do this? Seller’s remorse and all. When the gavel came down and they said ‘Sold!’, I wasn’t sure if I felt heartbroken or relieved. What an experience.”
Postponements Due to Mechanical Issues
Originally set for auction earlier this year, the sale was delayed due to an unexpected mechanical issue. A comprehensive inspection revealed that the LaFerrari‘s battery was dead and required replacement. The specialized ion starter battery powering the electric motor had reached the end of its eight-year lifespan, and sourcing a replacement in time proved impossible, leading to a nine-month postponement. Despite this setback, Hagar secured a significant profit, having initially purchased the custom LaFerrari for about $1.5 million.
Sammy Hagar‘s custom 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari not only set a new standard in the automotive auction world but also symbolizes the blend of rock culture and luxury automobiles. With its exceptional design and Hagar’s personal flair, this LaFerrari is poised to be a highly sought-after collector’s item for years to come.
