Alica Schmidt, “World’s Most Beautiful Athlete,” Fails to Reach Finals at Paris 2024 Olympics
Alica Schmidt, famously dubbed the “World’s Most Beautiful Athlete,” has bid farewell to the Paris 2024 Olympics after the German team failed to advance to the finals in the women’s 4x400m relay. In a disappointing outcome, the German relay team placed 7th in their heat with a time of 3:26.95, ending their Olympic journey prematurely.
Schmidt received the baton from teammate Skadi Schier, but a sluggish start left the German team trailing from the outset. Despite a solid individual performance, Schmidt and her teammates couldn’t make up the lost ground, ultimately exiting the competition without advancing.
In the mixed 4x400m relay, Schmidt’s team also faced disappointment, finishing with a time of 3:15.63, ranking 15th out of 16 teams. This marks Schmidt’s second Olympic appearance without a medal, intensifying the pressure on the athlete.
Schmidt’s selection for the German 4x400m mixed relay team stirred controversy, as she was chosen over Luna Bulmahn, a runner with theoretically better 400m times. Bulmahn publicly expressed her dissatisfaction on social media, and the decision not to include her in the relay lineup raised questions about the team’s performance.
Bulmahn shared her frustration, stating, “Yes, I am theoretically the second fastest 400m runner (in Germany). But I wasn’t nominated for the mixed relay team.” Her comments garnered support from fans, with one remarking, “Sports should be about fairness; numbers reflect talent, not beauty.”
Another supporter encouraged Bulmahn, writing, “Keep pushing, Bulmahn. Continue to prove your worth with outstanding performances.”
Schmidt had previously participated in the German team at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, but only as a substitute and did not compete when Germany placed 4th in the women’s 4x400m relay. She later contributed to the German squad at the 2022 European Athletics Championships, where the team finished 5th overall.
Alica Schmidt first gained widespread attention in 2017 when Australian magazine Busted Coverage named her the “World’s Most Beautiful Athlete.” Since then, she has become a social media sensation, amassing over 5 million followers on Instagram. However, while her beauty has captivated audiences, Schmidt is still striving to make her mark as a top-tier athlete in track and field.
